Saint-Jean Gate opens the fortified enclosure at the end of rue Saint-Jean, one of Old Québec's liveliest streets. A first gate stood here as early as 1693; the present one, built in 1939-1940, spans the street and links both sides of the ramparts by a bridge-like passage.
