INFRA Exhibition by Maxime Corbeil-Perron at La Bande Vidéo
Complexe Méduse
INFRA is a multi-screen video installation project that unfolds around the phenomenon of electro-magneto-reactivity. In the center of three undulating projections hangs an antique telephone handset. Thus detached from its base, which rests below, the object seems to be held in a state of waiting, positioned to lure us in; biting it is strongly suggested. In the point of contact between the handset, modified into a transmitter, and the human hand, a receiver of static electricity, the surrounding calm is disrupted, blurring the previous stability of the audiovisual environment so that new footage randomly clashes and the sound ambiance is altered. The resulting multisensory experience explores the notions of infraworlds, i.e., those elements that exist and move beneath the visible surface of things, of hidden interconnections, and of occult relationships that once were – and perhaps still are – maintained with technology.
