Exhibition: For You I Will Be an Island by Chun Hua Catherine Dong at VU
Complexe Méduse
Often called the mother river of China, the Yangtze bordered Chun Hua Catherine Dong's childhood, as she grew up alongside it. Now distant from her home country, the artist seeks to reconcile her memories and her visions of the future for these lands far from her, both in time and space. As she calls upon artificial intelligence to project images of her hometown's future, the views she obtains are those of waves crashing on its shores and flooded buildings. Indeed, the Yangtze has experienced annual floods for centuries that have repeatedly proven devastating and have intensified in recent decades, real data upon which these disturbing technology-generated visions are based.
