Machine de Cirque presents Masterclass: Performance Techniques
Performance Techniques A masterclass guided by Gypsy Snider This workshop mobilizes the tools of physical theatre, text theatre, and improvisation to explore and establish the link between the circus artist and their movement, action, and technique. We will define their theatrical dynamic as well as their relationship to intention, space, and the audience. We will also identify the power and dynamic of individual and collective work. Program Details The work begins with a demanding warm-up based on physical improvisation. Then, each participant will present a 3-minute sequence of their work, which we will dissect and rebuild through improvisation and group work. • We will examine the interpretation and integration of music, dramaturgy, and movement in the creative process. • We will work on the concepts of energy generation and "electricity" in relation to stage presence and dramaturgy, both as an individual artist and within an ensemble. Prerequisites and Expectations: This workshop requires artists to prepare and present 3 minutes of their circus/acrobatics discipline. This includes the prior preparation of their apparatus or technical needs. Please note that this presentation can be an excerpt from a finished work, a work in progress, or the proposal of a new idea. Its duration can vary between one and three minutes. Participants must also be prepared to: • Improvise physically and vocally/verbally (in their native language). • Engage in work involving relatively intense physical contact with the group. Duration 2 days of 7 hours: • September 2nd from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (including a meal break) • September 3rd from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (including a meal break)
