Creatures of the Forest
Chapelle du Séminaire de Québec
Mysterious, fascinating, and sometimes disturbing, the great dark forests have always fueled the imagination. In opera, they become the realm of nature and the marvelous, populated by dryads, roussalkas, villi, sorceresses, witches, and fairies, sometimes formidable and enchanting, sometimes gentle and protective. From Purcell to Britten, through Mozart, Wagner, Lehár, Dvořák, and Humperdinck, forests and waters transform into places of mystery, unease, and poetry. Without intermission. Scenario: Pierre-Charles Rochette. Staging: Maëliss Mahé. Musical Direction: Sylvain Landry. Pianist: Qiao Yi Miao Mu. Talks: Bruno Boulet. With Audrey Larose-Zicat, Evelyne Larochelle, Luce Vachon, and Guy Lessard.
