The literary back-to-school season is celebrated with free admission in Old Quebec: in September 2026, the Maison de la littérature (40, rue Saint-Stanislas) is hosting a series of free activities open to all, from comic strip workshops to poetry evenings (source: official programming, maisondelalitterature.qc.ca, consulted on September 4, 2026). Tuesday, September 8, 6 PM: Comic Jam. Group-created comic strips, with each person taking turns drawing the next panel, hosted by Rémi Paradis (Confiture BD Québec). Bring your favorite tools; reservation required. Next sessions: October 7, November 4, and December 2. Wednesday, September 9: two reading circles. The Gabriel-García-Márquez reading circle with André Jacob and the "Ce qu’il en reste" book club, both by reservation. Friday, September 11, 8 PM: Poetry Friday. Featured poets Michel Blouin, Jean Coulombe, Erika Soucy, and Hélène Bouchard, followed by an open mic where nine participants get five minutes each; sign-up at the entrance. Saturday, September 12, 2 PM: "Writing Life." A reading circle focused on the work of Annie Ernaux, by reservation. Saturday, September 26: Quebec City Writing Circle. The Maison de la littérature is open Tuesday to Friday from 1 PM to 8 PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 7 PM, and Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM; from September 9 to 13, it also hosts the Quebec City Film Festival Campus.
