Collective Exhibition: Our Thoughts Travel in Shells at Ahkwayaonhkeh

This medium, which encodes words and relationships in visual symbols, has been at the heart of Wendat political and spiritual life for centuries, as it has for other peoples sharing the wampum tradition. In the winter of 2025, a Wendat wampum from the Bank of Canada Collection, dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, was returned to Wendake. It is in this spirit of reunion and reconnection that a few weeks later, members of the nation engaged in a workshop on wampums, to draw inspiration from their ancestral principles for their own creations. This exhibition brings together a portion of the wampums created on this occasion, as well as a work by the workshop instructor Nicolas Renaud.
