Under the direction of Johann Stuckenbruck, the Conservatory of Music of Quebec Symphony Orchestra invites the public on a journey where imagination, virtuosity, and grand symphonic movements meet. From the enchantments of the fairy tale universe to the luminous landscapes of Bohemia, this program rich in colors reveals the full evocative power of the orchestra. To open, the prelude to Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel plunges the audience into the magical atmosphere of the Brothers Grimm's famous tale. By turns mysterious, tender, and majestic, this music announces a universe where enchantment coexists with adventure. Young pianist Brandon Bing, winner of the Conservatory's concerto competition, will then take his place alongside the orchestra to perform the first movement of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no. 1. Composed when the musician was only seventeen, this abundant work combines dazzling virtuosity, passionate lyricism, and youthful energy. The evening will culminate with Antonín Dvořák's Symphony no. 6, a generous and luminous work, imbued with the rhythms and colors of Czech popular music. Driven by great melodic richness and a vibrant orchestral sweep, this symphony brilliantly celebrates joy, nature, and vitality. A program with multiple facets, where the magic of stories, the fire of youth, and the warmth of great symphonic frescoes meet in a single evening.
