Les veilleuses - Album Launch
Grand Théâtre de Québec
Sandrine Masse is a Wendat and Quebecois author-composer-performer. Between contemporary song, atmospheric folk, and poetry, she creates works where narratives, identities, and heritage dialogue. Winner of the Karim-Ouellet grant and a distinction from the CAC for her contribution to the linguistic revitalization of her Nation, she transforms song into a space for connection between generations and human experiences. With Les veilleuses, Sandrine Masse offers a show driven by a desire to honor women - those who walk beside her and those who watch over her from other times. Accompanied by her talented musicians, or alone with her guitar, she offers songs that weave together stories telling her perspective on the world. From Wahsonta’yeh yändicha’, inspired by a fragment of the Wendat creation myth to evoke the cycles of violence and repair, to Les Soufflées, born from an autumn morning where dead leaves become a symbol of resistance against the invader, the show traces a circle of healing. With Lac miroir, the presence of ancestors — particularly that of the grandmother — can be sensed in the reflections of a territory inhabited by memory. « Les veilleuses, ce sont ces femmes qui éclairent sans bruit. Celles qui m’ont portée, celles qui me portent encore, et celles que je deviens. Ce spectacle est une façon de me rapprocher d’elles, de les honorer, de guérir, et de me permettre de transmettre cette lumière à mon tour. » — Sandrine Masse Each song acts as a veilleuse: a fragile but persistent light, which illuminates the darkness without ever denying it. Les veilleuses gives voice to those who refuse to disappear — voices that, even shaken, continue to watch, to transmit, and to transform. A presentation by the Grand Théâtre de Québec
