The Witch Hunts: Propaganda, Persecution, and Superstition
Bibliothèque Gabrielle-Roy
Attend this conference retracing the cultural, visual, and social evolution of the witch hunts in the heart of the Renaissance. From ancient myths to its role in contemporary culture, discover how, in the 15th century, an imaginary fueled by misogyny and anti-Semitism gave rise to the "witch" as a threat, leading to 300 years of murderous hunts across Europe. Through sermons, treatises, and pamphlets, a figure is constructed, accused of sabbaths, infanticide, or poisoning. A tasting of dark beer or white beer will be offered, at the choice of the participants. With Martin Parrot from Griendel.
