Witch Hunts: Propaganda, Persecution, and Superstition
Bibliothèque Étienne-Parent
Attend this conference retracing the cultural, visual, and social evolution of the witch hunt in the heart of the Renaissance. From ancient myths to its role in contemporary culture, discover how, in the 15th century, an imagination fueled by misogyny and anti-Semitism gave rise to the "witch" as a threat, leading to 300 years of murderous hunts across Europe. Through sermons, treatises, and pamphlets, a figure accused of sabbaths, infanticide, or poisoning is constructed. A tasting of a dark beer or a white beer will be offered, at the choice of the participants. With Martin Parrot from Griendel.
