Opéra de Québec
Grand Théâtre de Québec
Opera in 3 acts Music: Christoph Willibald Gluck Libretto: Ranieri de’ Calzabigi With Orpheus and Eurydice, Gluck gives lyrical art one of its purest forms. Through this story of love beyond death, the work speaks of absence, doubt, the fear of losing a loved one, but also of the power of art in the face of what escapes us. This grand production of Gluck's masterpiece is by the great Canadian director Robert Carsen, whose vision powerfully illuminates the simplicity and depth of the work. It also marks the return to Opéra de Québec of conductor Bernard Labadie, invited to share his passion for this rare repertoire. The role of Orpheus will be performed by the great contralto Rose Naggar-Tremblay, who makes her debut in this role. An exceptional encounter between an essential work, a remarkable performer, and first-rate artists.
