Et jusqu’à la fin la beauté.
Grand Théâtre de Québec
A treatise on memory, illness, the people we love and who leave us. But I also make funny faces! For this new effort, I won't give you the "more personal show..." line. I've already done that. I turn here to others – to one in particular – and to an incurable illness that is taking our mother from my family and me: an inimitable iconoclast, a free thinker open to the world and its beauty; a lover of life leaving a colossal impact on mine. Our family's journey through the healthcare system, its flaws, its successes (yes, yes…), our role as caregivers, and our very curious collective relationship with aging and the fate of seniors. I wrote this show over a seven-year period. Through accompanying her in illness, loss of autonomy, anger, and moments of light. A personal journal that has become public. My sister Marie is very present. She is my teammate, the captain of our family ship. Here, in her words, is what I've been trying to express for a while: "This is what illness leaves behind: beauty. When the frenzy of obligations and life plans fades, beauty remains. Not the formatted, loud beauty imposed by the outside world, but the one hidden in the in-between moments of life. The ones we'll spend most of our lives not seeing, because we're busy with something else. The moments suspended in the very heart of time. The little jokes, the softness of a caress, a knowing glance, a hummed tune. When illness erases everything useful from life, beauty remains." A presentation by Groupe Phaneuf
