BRAHMS ENTRE EN SCÈNE
Grand Théâtre de Québec
LET THE FESTIVAL BEGIN… MARC-ANDRÉ HAMELIN PLAYS THE 2ND PIANO CONCERTO Emilie LeBel, our composer-in-residence, will open the Brahms Festival with one of her latest creations, commissioned by the Orchestra. For the first part of this festival, Marc-André Hamelin, one of Canada's most renowned pianists, tackles the monumental Second Concerto. The expressive variety and intensity of this iconic score, which can be likened to a symphony for piano and orchestra in four movements, captivated audiences from its premiere and quickly toured Europe. Shortly after, Brahms composed his Third Symphony, which became his greatest Viennese success upon its premiere at the Musikverein, and whose famous theme from the third movement, Poco allegretto, has been revisited by… Frank Sinatra, Yves Montand, Dalida, and Serge Gainsbourg! As a final apotheosis, two of the composer's most beautiful Hungarian Dances thrill us with their syncopated lyricism, tinged with Gypsy influences.
