Stéphane Archambault
Théâtre du Petit Champlain/Maison de la chanson
No one expected it, not even him – Stéphane Archambault is getting back into music, and it was high time. Back on stage for the first time since the end of his popular band Mes Aïeux, he embarks on a solo show of 12 new songs, augmented by a few selected covers that are in phase with – or have influenced – his compositions. Stories of breakups and renewals, of time and surroundings, set in a narrative arc; an update of who and where he is, in the 'I' rather than the 'we'. Marked by the French golden age, with phrasing affably evoking traditional music, Archambault presents a plural, generous song, both reverent and a little gritty. An exercise in immodesty: he sheds his layers to present himself intimately, contemplatively – to connect more with an audience he wants to see leave with a smile. A show with serene reflections on age and common pitfalls, as well as a lesson in humility for an artist returning to you: throwing himself both into the void and into your arms. A first album is expected in the spring – for a reunion in shared excitement.
