MAGNIFICAT et Henri Michaux : Mouvements

Choreographer: Marie Chouinard Set to the divinely inspired music of Jean-Sébastien Bach's Le Magnificat BWV 243, performed by La Chapelle Royale (instrumental ensemble) and the Collegium Vocale Gent (choir), this is the movement of the soul that choreographer Marie Chouinard and the performers wish to offer you. In this work, MAGNIFICAT is unfolded in grand group movements, as well as in trios, duos, and solos. During this moment of grace, it is the Virgin who speaks, and her word is powerful, exalting. The woman, newly pregnant, addresses us; she is blessed, sublimely fulfilled. In her gaze, the world is freed from all yokes. This will be followed by the work Henri Michaux: Mouvements, which is the embodiment of the book by poet and painter Henri Michaux (1899-1984) published in 1951, which Marie Chouinard discovered in 1980. This piece is realized to the letter, as even the poem, which appears in the middle, its postface, and the front and back covers, with their inverted drawings, are part of the choreographic work. The drawings are projected in the background, thus giving spectators the opportunity to simultaneously make a personal reading of Michaux's score. Echoing the visual presentation of a white page with its black drawing, the performers, dressed in black, dance on a white floor.
