BEETHOVEN ET RACHMANINOV
Grand Théâtre de Québec
A CONCERTO AND A SYMPHONY, TWO FACES OF ROMANTICISM To pay tribute to two composers who marked the piano repertoire, the Orchestra invites "one of the most admired pianists of his generation" (The New York Times): Inon Barnatan, who tackles Beethoven's Third Concerto. In this masterpiece, a contemporary of the "Eroica" Symphony, Beethoven breaks free from the Mozartian model, in a minor key that concludes with a finale whose victorious character was hard-won. To conclude, Rachmaninoff's Second Symphony, created ten years after the failure of the First – which had plunged him into depression – became a success from its premiere in Saint Petersburg in 1908. Its rich melodies, sensual harmonies, famous adagio, and radiant finale make it a pillar of post-Romanticism: unmissable!
