Les Grands Explorateurs
Grand Théâtre de Québec
Meeting with Lyne Lefort and Simon C. Vaillancourt Panama is one of the 7 countries in Central America. This little-known strip of land, called an isthmus, became famous thanks to its mythical canal. The country plays a major role in international maritime trade. But what do we really know about this strip of land located between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans that connects North and South America? From the gleaming skyscrapers of the capital, Panama City, to the indigenous communities nestled in the Darién jungle, Panama fascinates with its cultural mix and its turbulent and exciting history. It is a land of contrasts where tradition and modernity coexist harmoniously. Nature is omnipresent, and the fauna unfolds with great diversity: sloths, toucans, and monkeys are never far away! Discovering Panama also means meeting different ethnic groups. Ngöbe-Buglé, Kuna, and Emberá are among the most numerous communities that share the territory with Panamanians. Their traditions still lead them to remain at a good distance from modern life and to opt for a lifestyle connected to nature. Their knowledge and customs dazzle even the most intrepid traveler.
