DU GRAND ÉCRAN À LA SYMPHONIE
Grand Théâtre de Québec
THE LYRICAL INTENSITY OF KORNGOLD, THE HEROIC POWER OF DVOŘÁK Invited by our Orchestra to conduct this concert with a explosive program, Daniel Raiskin, a conductor with explosive talent, began his musical journey in Saint Petersburg, Amsterdam, and Fribourg before embarking on a dazzling career. The evening kicks off at full throttle with the overture from the most famous film composer: John Williams. Imagined for a famous 1970s western, the score captures the full spirit of the American West and precedes the instrumental masterpiece of another musician revealed by Hollywood cinema: Erich Wolfgang Korngold. In his Violin Concerto, he reprises themes of great lyrical breadth drawn from his most beautiful film scores. This is followed by a long-forgotten treasure by Mahler: Blumine, the original slow movement of his First Symphony, which the composer discarded before it was discovered long after his death in 1966. Its sentimental and nostalgic poetry tugs at the heartstrings, before Dvořák's majestic Seventh Symphony erupts. The score brought the composer international recognition with its powerful orchestration, contrasting themes, and dramatic heroism that resonates with all lovers of romanticism.
