Chansons rassembleuses
Grand Théâtre de Québec
Since 2017, Nikamu Mamuitun, or Gathering Songs, has celebrated the meeting and creativity between Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists, offering a space where song becomes a powerful vector of unity and sharing. Born from the dream of Alan Côté of the Festival en chanson de Petite-Vallée and shared with Florent Vollant, this project brings together singer-songwriters from diverse backgrounds, accompanied by mentors and inspiring artistic direction. After a memorable first edition, a new cohort is preparing to meet audiences. Mimi O’Bonsawin (Abenaki, Ontario), Sandrine Masse (Wendat, Wendake), Pako (Atikamekw, Manawan), Willows (Red River Métis, Manitoba) – and three non-Indigenous artists – Mariko (Sainte-Émilie-de-l’Énergie), Velours Velours (Sainte-Anne-des-Monts/Trois-Rivières), and Luan Larobina (Latina-Gaspésienne, Douglastown) – will unite their voices to compose a common repertoire. Under the musical direction of Ivan Boivin-Flamand (Atikamekw, Manawan) and the artistic direction of Guillaume Arsenault, this new cohort will bring to life an album recorded at Makusham studio, as well as a new show, created in Petite-Vallée in the fall of 2025, before beginning a performance tour. Through exchange and transmission, Nikamu Mamuitun vibrates with the meeting of cultures and celebrates the richness of musical métissage. A powerful and authentic show, bearing witness to unique human and artistic bonds. The show is part of the EKOTE tour - Spotlight on Indigenous Stages, a collective initiative involving several performing arts associations. Its purpose is to showcase contemporary Indigenous arts and foster intercultural dialogue through artistic creation. This project is powered by REFRAIN (Regroupement des festivals régionaux artistiques indépendants) with the collaboration of Télé-Québec for its outreach. It is made possible thanks to the support of the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec. A presentation by the Grand Théâtre de Québec
