Cendrillon
Grand Théâtre de Québec
Choreographer: Jayne Smeulders Between a cruel stepmother and two jealous stepsisters, Cinderella grows up in the shadows, condemned to thankless tasks and silent dreams. Yet, at the heart of this faded existence, a light persists, that of hope and the desire for another destiny. The day the fairy godmother appears, the course of her life changes, and the young girl is drawn into a world where anything becomes possible. Received with enthusiasm during its presentation in Montreal in 2023, this production created by Les Grands Ballets Canadiens returns today to meet the public. Inspired by the famous fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault, and driven by Prokofiev's brilliant music, choreographer Jayne Smeulders has created a ballet of great poetry, where magic, humor, and emotion intertwine. In a vibrant visual universe, made of enchanting sets and sparkling costumes, Cinderella unfolds a luminous and generous dance, offering performers and audiences of all ages a timeless journey. A presentation of the Grand Théâtre de Québec "The version of the ballet Cinderella [...] is elegant, moving… and often hilarious. It's not every night you see a true fairy tale." – Marie Tison, La Presse "A journey where beauty and magic blend with pure emotion." – Izabelle Bernier, Narcity Dance Series This performance is part of our 2026-2027 Dance Series.
