LE 3e CONCERTO POUR PIANO DE RACHMANINOV
Grand Théâtre de Québec
THE HYMN TO SPRING With the arrival of spring just days away, Clemens Schuldt invites us to a brilliant musical evocation of this season. The work "D'un matin de printemps" (A Spring Morning), orchestrated by French composer Lili Boulanger shortly before her premature death, exudes passionate vitality, while the "Spring" Overture by Hungarian Károly Goldmark, a close friend of Brahms, plunges us into an intensely romantic universe. "The Sea" by English composer Frank Bridge, written in 1911 in Eastbourne, where Debussy himself had finished "La Mer," evokes a contrasting impressionist painting. In a different vein, Gilles Bellemare's surprising orchestration of Félix Leclerc's "Hymne au printemps" remains an emblematic song echoing nature. Finally, the virtuoso Albanian pianist Marie-Ange Nguci, already world-renowned despite her young age, tackles one of the most demanding works in the piano repertoire: Rachmaninoff's Third Concerto, premiered by the composer in New York in 1909. Popularized by the film "Shine" (1996), this score, along with his Second Concerto, is the composer's most acclaimed.
