MONUMENTALE 4e SYMPHONIE DE TCHAÏKOVSKI
Grand Théâtre de Québec
THE ACCORDION JOINS IN Only Clemens Schuldt can happily bring together the accordion, contemporary creation, Argentine tango, and great Russian romanticism in a single evening! Magic unfolds with A Night on Bald Mountain, inspired by Moussorgski's witches' sabbath, opening up a phantasmagorical universe—a form of sonic imagination found in a more contemporary version with The Ghost Machine Treatise. Swedish-American composer Daniel Nelson conceived this astonishing score for the artist The Independent called "the man who single-handedly reinvents the accordion": Lithuanian virtuoso Martynas Levickis. The title refers to the incredible "ghost machine" project by inventor Thomas Edison. We move to the spring of Buenos Aires evoked by Piazzolla in his Primavera Porteña, an emblematic work of Tango Nuevo that fuses classical and jazz, before a romantic whirlwind concludes this generous musical journey. Tchaikovsky composed his Fourth Symphony in Venice, but the monumental work premiered in the Moscow winter of 1878. "To contain the seed of an entire life: the force of destiny." Thus formulated, the composer's project could only result in one of his masterpieces.
