Ether
Chiguer contemporary art is pleased to present Ether, the new solo exhibition by Valérie Potvin. In Ether, human bodies become territories of encounter with the animal and mineral worlds. With a chalky white hue lending an evanescent aura, these silhouettes are occupied by resin bones, snakes, or beetles in colored and translucent resin, seemingly floating on their surface. Transformed into creatures with surreal accents, the figures transport us into a dreamlike universe where a singular tension between vulnerability and resilience is born from this cohabitation. The molding work holds a central place in Valérie's approach. With this technique, she develops a sculptural language where materiality oscillates between opacity and transparency. More than a reproduction process, it becomes a space for exchange and co-construction, nourished by intimate exchanges with the models. This proximity brings a human and social dimension to the works, while questioning the relationships between representation, bodily memory, and identity. The title Ether evokes an invisible substance connecting the celestial and terrestrial worlds in ancient thought. Like this elusive matter, the exhibition explores the discreet forces that shape our realities and the links uniting humans with their environment.
