Exposition Vacants de Maxime Sauvage
Complexe Méduse
Maxime Sauvage's recent work is part of a discreet intervention approach in public space. Inspired by abandoned storefronts, the triptych evokes both the vacant businesses in the neighborhood and the precariousness of cultural venues. Each image uses the backlighting of light boxes to highlight the strangeness of these abandoned storefronts, illuminated from within as if by chance. By diverting the codes of urban display, the artist highlights the fragility of a social fabric undermined by real estate speculation. The storefronts presented are not documented locations, but models built from recovered materials, then exposed to the elements and photographed. These images then take on the appearance of fake advertisements or mirrors of a city in transformation. Between fiction and observation, Vacants offers a sensitive meditation on urban space, where a common memory is nevertheless written. This site uses cookies to improve your browsing experience.
