The Relics of Chimeras, by Nicolas Maisonneuve
With The Relics of Chimeras, Nicolas Maisonneuve presents a collection of sculptures and objects evoking a universe on the border of reality, dreams, and myth. Arranged like precious artifacts, the works seem to come from a cabinet of curiosities or an ancient world populated by hybrid creatures. Inspired by rococo aesthetics, the artist creates an ornamental universe where natural forms become material for transformation. From molds of elements from the animal and plant kingdoms, he creates sculptural objects that dialogue the vocabulary of classical sculpture with biological imagination. Between relics, chimeras, and reinvented fragments of nature, the exhibition invites us to observe how forms become charged with meaning when they are isolated, transformed, and presented in a contemporary art context.
