July 3rd Ceremony
Since its founding in 1937, the Quebec Historical Society initiated an annual tradition that continues to this day. This is the ceremony honoring the founder of Quebec City, Samuel de Champlain, on July 3rd, the day of his arrival in Quebec. The ceremony takes place at the foot of the founder's monument on Dufferin Terrace. Flower wreaths are laid and various speeches are given. Since 1978, the Municipal Administration has organized the ceremony, in collaboration with the Historical Society. It is integrated into the program of festivities surrounding the City's anniversary.
