Iestyn Davies Sings Handel
A JOURNEY THROUGH THE DRAMATIC UNIVERSE OF HANDEL The luminous voice of Iestyn Davies unfolds in a program entirely devoted to the most beautiful arias from George Frideric Handel's operas and oratorios. This musical journey explores the dramatic and emotional richness of the Baroque master through his most iconic works. FROM DESPAIR TO ECSTASY From the amorous passion of Giulio Cesare to the spiritual meditations of Theodora, the British countertenor successively embodies tragic heroes and tormented souls. The very famous "Cara sposa" from Rinaldo is juxtaposed with the virtuosic flights of Flavio and Radamisto, while the contemplative pages of L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato offer moments of rare intimacy. THE MEETING OF TWO MASTERS Under the direction of Bernard Labadie, Les Violons du Roy accompany this exceptional voice with the finesse and sensitivity that characterize their approach to the Baroque repertoire. Overtures and instrumental dances punctuate this recital, creating a dialogue between vocal writing and instrumental imagination that reveals all of Handel's theatrical splendor.
